Vendrame Claims Second Career Giro Stage Triumph
Andrea Vendrame (AG2R Citroën Team) has won stage 19 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia, a 157km ride from Mortegliano to San Daniele del Friuli. The Italian rider beat Chris Hamilton (Team DSM) and George Bennett (UAE Team Emirates) in a sprint finish to claim his second career Giro stage triumph.
Vendrame was part of a breakaway group that formed early in the stage. The group built up a lead of over four minutes at one point, but the peloton began to close in on the final climb. Vendrame attacked on the penultimate climb and managed to stay away from the chasing group. He then held off Hamilton and Bennett to take the stage victory.
Vendrame's victory is the second for AG2R Citroën Team at this year's Giro. The team also won stage 12 with Ben O'Connor. Vendrame's victory is also the first for an Italian rider at this year's Giro.
